Radeon RX 6700XT cards are exceptional in terms of performance. It is one of the main reasons to use it for Ethereum mining. Testing shows average effectiveness for this series of cards (45 – 50 MH/s). These parameters are way worse compared to the previous generation (60 65 MH/s). We are talking about RX 5700XT.
The memory bus bandwidth optimization is the driving factor behind the improved performance. The bandwidth was reduced from 256 to 192 bits. Simultaneously, the power of the graphic processor was increased. Some experts claim that the effectiveness of hardware included in RX 6700XT is great and the community may underestimate it.
Most owners of this AMD card prefer to reduce the frequency of the core to 1100 – 1150 MHz instead of standard 2500 MHz. The voltage can be also reduced to a minimum of 912 mV instead of 1200 mV. These parameters can be altered using special adjustment tools and AMD drivers. The frequency of the memory chip for Ethereum mining must be set to 2150 MHz with the Fast Clock option enabled. In this mode, RX 6700T shows average effectiveness of 47 – 48 MH/s using 105 – 110 W of energy which sparks joy in many miners.
Using some relatively simple tweaks, you can further reduce the consumption by another 10 – 15 W without losing any hash rate. You can do it by changing the limits of minimal voltage for graphic processors connected to VBIOS. It’ll take less than 5 minutes using the CPU-Z software to alter the BIOS. (Be sure to extract all files from the archive before launching, and only then perform the launch)
The next important utility is MorePowerTool. To tweak BIOS parameters, follow the algorithm below:
Download the AMD Adrenalin software tool and enable changing the settings of the graphic processor and additional parameters. Set the minimal frequency to 500 MHz and choose the maximum (any value between 1100 and 1150 will do).
*You can leave the effectiveness you set before when setting the optimal parameters without changing VBIOS.
In our case, the drivers for RX 6700XT will automatically switch the voltage of the processor to 675 mW. You will reduce the energy consumption of the card from 110 W to 96 W while the hash rate will remain in the same diapason (47- 48 MH/s).
Take note! When the voltage in the graphic processor drops its temperature also drops, reducing the speed of fans in the system. The speed of these fans depends on the temperature of the graphic processor. At the same time, the temperature of the memory chip working like crazy will slightly increase.
It happens due to the decrease in airflow intensity. It is important to check how the cooling system performs. When necessary, you can set a constant fan speed or adjust the fan speed using the AMD Adrenalin driver kit. Controlling temperature is crucial for avoiding errors.
