The growth of the hash rate of video cards is now possible thanks to the new GDDR6 ram

There was an announcement from Samsung, which talks about the release of new GDDR6 video ram chips. The data transfer rate in it has increased by 20Gbps and 24Gbps. They are fully compatible with the JEDEC specifications for GDDR6 standard. Thanks to this, it will be possible to create improved versions of existing generations of video cards with GDDR6 memory at 16Gbps, using a minimum of effort. The performance of the new Samsung chips is 50% higher than previous models. AMD released a similar version in the summer of 2021 in limited quantities under the name Radeon RX 6900XT LC. They have water cooling and GDDR6 ram at 18.5Gbps (RX 6900XT has 16Gbps). 

Next year, there is a high probability that Nvidia and AMD will present updated series of these video cards, where GPU frequencies and ram will be higher. The models will be called RX 6900XTX and RTX 3070 Super. 

2022 will also bring upgraded models of Nvidia’s 4000 series and AMD’s 7000 series graphics cards. And this is not surprising. After all, there is an unprecedented demand now, and in this regard, there is a shortage of video cards on the market. After the 1000 series was released, and the 2000 series is expected to be released with a delay of 3 years, the release of improved video cards in a minimum volume is absolutely expected in 2022 (you can add a rush in mining here). 

It can be assumed that the developers will make only small changes to the GPU. But even replacing ram modules from 16Gbps to 24Gbps will bring a 50% increase in hash rate on mining algorithms that depend on the performance of the ram subsystem. An excellent example is the Dagger-Hashimoto or Ethash mining algorithm. It allows miners to mine the Ethereum cryptocurrency and many of its forks. 

It is possible today to predict the percentage of performance in Ethereum mining, which will be given by new AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. 

Memory for GDDR6 graphics cards from Samsung is considered the fastest for today. GDDR6X remains behind, which appears in powerful and productive Nvidia gaming devices. The ram bandwidth of video cards will be higher due to the introduction of 24Gbps. This will have a positive effect on the hash rate of such video cards in the mining of the Ethereum cryptocurrency.
