The immersion cooling of ASIC miners is tested by the Riot Blockchain mining company. This equipment was created with the aim of increasing the hash rate by 25-50%. The company intends to complete the pilot product testing process by the end of the 1st quarter of next year.
Riot Blockchain intends to increase the hash rate to 50% at the same time, without making additional purchases. In this case, the freshly baked development of immersion cooling on the territory of the Whinstone plant (Texas) will be able to help.
The technology consists in immersing the equipment in a special liquid. There it will continue to work, but already at very low temperatures. So overheating is excluded. The installation of ASIC miners will start at the end of 2021. 200 MW of capacity from the required 400 MW expansion are used for these purposes. The new development will give 46,000 Antminer S19 cooling.
The collected data in this area and the conducted preliminary tests of immersion cooling became the basis for the creation of such a project. Preliminary forecasts for testing show a nominal hash rate growth of up to 25%. However, the performance potential of the ASIC can grow up to 50%. Riot Blockchain will receive more accurate and detailed results at the end of testing by the end of the first quarter of 2022. If this development is successful, the company will be able to develop this direction not only by purchasing new equipment, but also by increasing the hashing speed. The result is an increase in efficiency and profit from BTC mining.
In October 2021, Riot Blockchain signed a contract with company Bitmain for the supply of 2,500 ASIC miners Antminer S19 Pro (cost $6.1 million). Delivery and installation of the equipment is scheduled for December of this year. As a result, the hash rate power can grow from 500 Px/s to 2.3 Eh/s.
